Child Shuts Down Wal-Mart

:) Having young children we love to get out and just ride around the town and look. On Christmas eve was the case. As we rode through town I began to see the power of God everywhere— At Wal-mart at Burger King at Subway and Kroger. The power of God all over town! I stared in amazement as I considered how that the birth of a child over 2000 years ago could still effect us in such a dramatic way. The birth of Jesus shut down Shelbyville and many other cities around the world for a few days. That’s power!

Long Term Investments

Recent market instability brings up the question, just what is a good investment. As for me, I know that one day I will pass from this world by death. It won’t be my work, the songs I penned, the movies I watched, the fish I caught, the teams I cheered for, the sermons I preached or even the children I raised that will live on. If I was fortunate and wrote the next “Amazing Grace” maybe my name might span several centuries but eventually the greatest art and literature will no longer retain their former glory either. Even the greatest inventions will be replaced by newer technology and better ways to accomplish the same work. A king in the Bible named Solomon dealt with this reality and had this to say of it.

No one who lived in the past is remembered anymore, and everyone yet to be born will be forgotten too. Ecclesiastes 1:11

So what might I contribute to the human race that would be of long lasting value? It must be something that will help my fellowman. It must be able to retain its value over the ages to come. It has to be easily transferable and able to overcome barriers such as culture, race, and language. You guessed it! It is Love. When I reach out with the truth to the people around me that God has placed in my life I am investing in eternity. Often times true love has a way of speaking to the heart of the recipient louder than “A month of Sundays” sermons.
